I have found several papers that I would like to read, but in order to see more then the intro you have to pay. This research is kicking my butt.

I think my head may explode from all the reading...
Even though Pete does not like bullet points, this site gives ways to teach students with learning disabilities. This is a good resource for all teachers because not every student learns the same. If you only teach one way there will be some students that wont understand.

Love this site! Anyone who want to be a teacher should know about this site. This site has broken down steps and components to helping students with disabilities learn.

In starting to do research on my topic I felt it would be important to start by informing the reader on what dyslexia is. So I found this site:

http://www.medicinenet.com/dyslexia/article.htm

This site answers list out all the points they cover regarding dyslexia allowing the reader to fine exactly what they are looking for. Everything is broken down into bullets that like you to more information regarding what ab out dyslexia you want to know about.

Next it was time to start finding related papers to my topic if they exist. I typed "dyslexic people in computer science" and found this:

I found a paper from the University of Salford, UK that is just like what i am researching. the title of this paper is "Identifying Trends concerning Computer Science Students with Dyslexia: A Data Mining Approach".
This paper looks at dyslexic students furthering their education. There focus was to see what field dyslexic students chose and why, as well and how the computer science major can be the best fit.

This is another article that supports what I am researching. this is just a page out of a book that has been scanned into the internet, but it is still of information. it informs the reader about programming and how the dyslexic understand it and why. being dyslexic in the computer science field can be an advantage.

Being a dyslexic student I find myself always wanting to teach others about my disability so when they come across another dyslexic student they have a better idea in how to help then succeed. There are so many ways I can go about involving dyslexia into my research for this project but one idea seems to stand out the most allowing me to form a question to start with. Can providing Computer Sciences classes to dyslexic students in high school affect college enrollment? Lets develop a structure for dyslexic students to further their education after high school in high demanding fields. It is time to build the confidence of students who are smart but may have a hard time showing it. Dyslexia in Computer Science.

Preliminary Project Abstract

  • How many high schools offer Computer Science classes and what is the impact of these classes on students with dyslexia?
  • Can computer science be beneficial to dyslexic students in other classes and problem solving?
  • Can the age of when the dyslexic student learns computer science affect their ability to retain and comprehend all the information being taught?
  • Can and does knowing computer science have an impact on the amount of students who enroll in higher education as well as the amount of people who graduate with a degree?
  • In the field of computer science can being dyslexic give you an advantage?
